Sermorelin Acetate is a synthetic peptide made up of the first 29 amino acids of growth hormone releasing hormone (GHRH), the hypothalamic signal that prompts the pituitary gland to release growth hormone. That 29-residue fragment is the shortest sequence shown to carry the full activity of the native hormone, which is why Sermorelin became the reference GHRH analogue in the literature.
Sermorelin acts on the GHRH receptor in the pituitary rather than supplying growth hormone directly, so the release it prompts in laboratory models keeps the body's own pulsatile rhythm and stays under the normal feedback from somatostatin and IGF-1. That preserved regulation is the reason researchers choose it to study the growth hormone axis without overriding it.
Because it works through the GHRH receptor, Sermorelin is routinely studied alongside ghrelin-receptor secretagogues such as Ipamorelin, which act on a different receptor in the same axis. The two mechanisms are complementary, and the pairing runs through much of the growth hormone research literature.
