Buy HCG in Canada: 5,000 IU Vials

You can buy HCG in Canada from Vistara Labs as a 5,000 IU lyophilised vial, shipped from within Canada by Canada Post Xpresspost. HCG, short for human chorionic gonadotropin, is one of the most searched names in any peptide catalogue and one of the least typical: it is a glycoprotein hormone rather than a short peptide, and it is labelled in international units rather than milligrams. This guide covers what HCG is, what the published studies found and how to buy HCG Canada-wide.

What is HCG?

Human chorionic gonadotropin is a natural hormone made by the placenta, and it is the molecule pregnancy tests detect. It is a close match for luteinising hormone (LH), the pituitary signal that tells the testes to make testosterone, and it binds the same receptor, which is why it has a long clinical history in fertility medicine and is the standard laboratory tool for LH-receptor signalling. It is built from two amino-acid chains, an alpha chain of 92 amino acids shared with LH and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and a beta chain of 145 that is unique to HCG. Both carry sugar groups, which makes it a glycoprotein.

Why is HCG measured in IU, not mg?

A synthetic peptide is a single defined molecule, so it can be weighed. The sugar chains on HCG vary from molecule to molecule, so two preparations of the same mass can differ in biological activity. It is therefore standardised the way insulin is, in international units of activity calibrated against an international reference standard held by the WHO. A 5,000 IU vial is a statement about activity, not weight, and our guide to HCG reconstitution covers the units-per-millilitre arithmetic.

What have HCG studies found?

  • Testicular testosterone, 2005. In a randomised trial in 29 men with normal reproductive function, three weeks of testosterone with placebo suppressed LH and FSH to 5% and 3% of baseline and cut testosterone inside the testes by 94%. With HCG given alongside, testicular testosterone rose in a straight line with the amount of HCG (P<0.001), and in the group given the most it finished 26% above its starting level.
  • Sperm production, 2013. In a review of 26 men on testosterone therapy with HCG alongside, followed for a mean of 6.2 months, no man became azoospermic, semen measures did not change over more than a year of follow-up, and 9 of the 26 men contributed to a pregnancy with their partner.
  • Older men, 2002. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of 40 men over 60 with partial androgen deficiency, three months of recombinant HCG raised total and free testosterone by about 150% and increased lean body mass by about 2 kg; muscle strength did not change.
  • Review, 2021. A review in Expert Review of Endocrinology & Metabolism concluded that the LH-like action of HCG, prompting the body’s own testosterone and sperm production without the fertility effects seen with testosterone replacement, makes it a prime candidate in secondary hypogonadism.

HCG format and handling

  • 5,000 IU per vial, lyophilised. Sold as a single vial or a pack of ten, freeze-dried for stability in transit.
  • Cold storage. Unopened vials keep best cold, dry and dark. HCG is more fragile in solution than a short peptide, so a reconstituted vial is refrigerated, not frozen; see storing peptides.
  • Bacteriostatic water. Reconstitution uses bacteriostatic water.

Frequently asked questions

Is HCG a peptide?

Strictly, HCG is a glycoprotein hormone: two amino-acid chains of 92 and 145 residues that carry sugar groups. It is often searched for as the HCG peptide because it is built from amino acids and is studied alongside peptides on the same hormonal axes, but it is far larger than a typical peptide and is measured in international units.

Why is HCG measured in IU instead of mg?

Its sugar chains vary, so its biological activity does not track its mass exactly. It is standardised in international units of activity against an international reference standard held by the WHO, the same way insulin is.

What have HCG studies found?

In a 2005 randomised trial, testosterone inside the testes rose in step with the amount of HCG given alongside testosterone, finishing 26% above baseline at the highest amount tested. In a 2013 study of 26 men on testosterone therapy plus HCG, none became azoospermic and 9 contributed to a pregnancy.
