How Long Does BPC-157 Last? Storage Before and After Mixing

Lyophilised BPC-157 keeps at 2 to 8 °C for the weeks a vial is in use and at minus 20 °C for longer holding. Once mixed with bacteriostatic water it lasts 8 to 12 weeks in the fridge under Vistara Labs’ handling guidance, with quality slowly fading from around week 6 to 8. A mixed vial is not left at room temperature, is never frozen and thawed for repeat access, and is kept in the dark. BPC-157’s own chemistry is unusually forgiving, which is part of why it sits comfortably inside the general window.

Findings

  • BPC-157 is a 15-amino-acid peptide, GEPPPGKPADDAGLV, with a molecular weight of about 1419, described by its developers as stable in human gastric juice (2011).
  • The same group reports it stays native in human gastric juice for more than 24 hours, where most peptides are broken down quickly (2025).
  • Its sequence has no methionine, cysteine, tryptophan, asparagine or glutamine, so the main oxidation and deamidation routes that limit other peptides in solution are absent (2026 review).
  • Its main chemical weak point is slow hydrolysis at the Asp10 to Asp11 bond; formal long-term solution stability has not been published, so the mixed window is the general guidance.

What makes BPC-157 stable?

BPC-157 was derived from a protein fraction of human gastric juice, and its developers describe it as an anti-ulcer pentadecapeptide that is stable in that environment (Sikiric et al., Curr Pharm Des, 2011). Their later reviews put the figure at more than 24 hours native in human gastric juice (Sikiric et al., Pharmaceuticals, 2025). Gastric juice at pH 1 to 2 carries pepsin and acid, conditions that hydrolyse most therapeutic peptides quickly, which is why this property is cited so often (Mateescu et al., Pharmaceutics, 2026).

The sequence explains much of it. A 2026 biopharmaceutical review of BPC-157 noted the absence of methionine, cysteine, tryptophan, asparagine and glutamine, which removes the oxidation and deamidation pathways that dominate most peptide formulation work. Three consecutive prolines at positions 3 to 5 disfavour the beta-sheet stacking that leads to aggregation. What remains is hydrolysis of the aspartyl bond between positions 10 and 11, plus a glycation risk at lysine 7 if reducing sugars are present (Mateescu et al., Pharmaceutics, 2026). Plain bacteriostatic water contains no sugar, so that last point applies to formulations rather than to a mixed research vial.

The same review is clear about the gap: no forced-degradation or long-term solution stability study for BPC-157 has been published. Stability in the stomach is also a different question from stability in the bloodstream, where its half-life is under 30 minutes. The 8 to 12 week fridge window is therefore Vistara Labs’ general handling guidance, which BPC-157’s chemistry supports rather than a measured expiry.

How long does BPC-157 powder last?

A sealed lyophilised vial is a dry cake with almost no water, so the hydrolysis that slowly affects the Asp10 to Asp11 bond in solution has little to work with. Kept sealed, cold and dark, it holds for the weeks it is in use at 2 to 8 °C and for months at minus 20 °C. A vial taken from the fridge or freezer is allowed to reach room temperature before the stopper is pierced, so condensation does not form on the powder. Days at room temperature in transit do not harm it.

The window assumes the vial is kept upright in the main body of the fridge, in its box, with the stopper swabbed before every access and the mixing date written on the label. The separate 28-day figure in pharmacy practice comes from USP General Chapter 797 and is about sterility of a preserved multi-dose container, not about the peptide. The volume and concentration arithmetic for a 10 mg vial, with a calculator, is on the BPC-157 reconstitution page.

How can you tell BPC-157 has degraded?

Mixed BPC-157 is a clear, colourless solution. Hydrolysis at the aspartyl bond produces shorter fragments that are also colourless, so a clear vial is not proof of full strength; the date and the storage history matter as much as the look. Discard the solution if it shows:

  • Cloudiness that does not clear within 10 to 15 minutes of mixing.
  • Strands, flakes or particles.
  • Any tint, such as yellowing.
  • A vial that has been frozen and thawed or left out overnight.

Travelling with BPC-157

Sealed powder vials travel well at ambient temperature for a few days, out of direct heat. A mixed vial is a solution and needs cold the whole way, which is what the peptide travel case is for. Every Vistara Labs order ships from within Canada by Canada Post Xpresspost, so there is no customs hold on the way.

What about the BPC-157 nasal spray?

The BPC-157 Nasal Spray and the BPC-157 + TB-500 Nasal Spray arrive ready-mixed in a sealed metered pump (0.175 mL per press). Because the peptide is already in solution, the bottle is kept upright in the fridge, like a mixed vial. The full rules are in how to store a peptide nasal spray.

Vistara Labs supplies BPC-157 and bacteriostatic water as laboratory research materials. The windows on this page describe how long the material stays in good condition; they are not instructions for any other use.

Frequently asked questions

How long does BPC-157 last in the fridge?

Mixed with bacteriostatic water and kept at 2 to 8 °C in the dark, BPC-157 lasts 8 to 12 weeks under Vistara Labs’ handling guidance, with quality slowly fading from around week 6 to 8. A sealed powder vial keeps in the fridge for the weeks it is in use.

How long does BPC-157 last at room temperature?

Sealed lyophilised powder tolerates a few days at room temperature, such as time in transit. A mixed vial is not stored at room temperature; it goes back in the fridge after each access.

Can you freeze BPC-157?

Sealed powder, yes: minus 20 °C is the standard for holding it for months. A mixed vial that will be opened again, no, because freezing and thawing aggregates peptides in solution. Laboratories freeze single-use aliquots once instead.

Does BPC-157 go bad?

Slowly. Its sequence lacks the residues that oxidise or deamidate, and its developers report it stays native in human gastric juice for more than 24 hours, but in solution the bond between its two aspartic acids slowly hydrolyses. Cloudiness, particles or a tint mean the solution is discarded.

Is BPC-157 stable in stomach acid?

Its developers describe it as stable in human gastric juice for more than 24 hours, an unusual property for a peptide. That is a different measure from shelf life in a vial, which depends on cold, dark storage.
