Is Reta Legal in Canada?

Short version: reta (retatrutide) is not a controlled substance in Canada, and it is lawful to sell and buy as a laboratory research material. It is not an approved medicine, so it cannot be sold in Canada for human use. That is the same lane every research peptide sits in, and it explains why reta is sold labelled for research use only. This is general information, not legal advice.

Findings

  • Reta is not listed in any schedule of Canada’s Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
  • Reta holds no Health Canada drug authorization; it does not appear in the Drug Product Database as of October 2026.
  • It is lawful to sell and buy as a research material. It is not lawful to sell as a medicine.
  • The deciding line is intended use, which is why reta is labelled for research use only.
  • Ordering reta from a Canadian supplier is an ordinary domestic purchase, shipped to every province.

Is reta a controlled substance in Canada?

No. Canada’s Controlled Drugs and Substances Act lists the drugs it controls by schedule: opioids, stimulants, cannabis, benzodiazepines, anabolic steroids and the rest. Retatrutide does not appear in any of them, in the version of the Act current to 30 September 2026. Reta is not scheduled the way narcotics or steroids are, which puts it in the same position as most research peptides.

Is reta approved by Health Canada?

No. A drug sold as a medicine in Canada needs a Health Canada authorization and a drug identification number, and authorized products are listed in Health Canada’s Drug Product Database. Retatrutide has no entry there as of October 2026. Its phase 3 trials were published in 2026 and a US filing is planned for 2027; where that stands is covered in Reta in 2026.

The lane reta sits in

Under the Food and Drugs Act and its regulations, an unapproved drug cannot be sold for human use. Supplying the same substance for laboratory research is a different thing. That is the whole legal architecture of the research-peptide market, and it is why reta, like every research peptide, is labelled research use only and described without medical claims.

The same compound can therefore exist in two forms. The pharmaceutical product tested in reta’s clinical trials is an investigational drug under development. Reta supplied as a research material is a laboratory compound, sold for research and labelled that way.

Is it legal to buy reta in Canada?

Buying reta as a research material from a Canadian supplier is an ordinary domestic transaction. The obligations sit mostly on the seller’s side: honest labelling, no therapeutic claims, no human-use marketing. Vistara Labs supplies Retatrutide (GLP-3) as lyophilised vials labelled for research use only, with certificates of analysis on the lab reports page.

Does reta ship through customs?

Not from us. Every Vistara Labs order ships from within Canada by Canada Post Xpresspost, so there is no customs step and the parcel travels as an ordinary domestic delivery. Why that matters is set out in peptides and customs in Canada.

Would approval change reta’s status?

If a reta medicine is approved in Canada, that authorization covers the approved pharmaceutical product, sold under its own conditions. Reta supplied for laboratory research would remain a research material, and the research-use lane described above would still apply to it.

Vistara Labs supplies reta to researchers in every province, labelled for research use only and described without medical claims. Questions about a compound or an order are welcome through our contact page.
