How Long Does Selank Last? Storage Before and After Mixing

Sealed lyophilised Selank keeps longest cold and dark, and once mixed with bacteriostatic water it lasts 8 to 12 weeks at 2 to 8 °C, with quality slowly fading from around week 6 to 8. Mixed Selank is not stored at room temperature, a vial that will be opened again is not frozen, and light is kept off it. The registered Selank nasal drops are labelled 2 to 8 °C, protected from light and never frozen, with a separate, much shorter clock once the bottle is opened. The ready-mixed Selank Nasal Spray is kept the same way as a mixed vial.

Findings

  • Selank is a seven-amino-acid peptide, Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro, built on tuftsin, a peptide the body makes.
  • Its sequence contains no methionine, cysteine, asparagine or glutamine, the residues behind most oxidation and deamidation of peptides in solution.
  • The registered 0.15% nasal drops (1.5 mg per mL, preserved with methylparaben) are labelled 2 to 8 °C, protected from light, not frozen, with a 2-year shelf life.
  • Once opened, that registered bottle is kept at no more than 25 °C for no more than 15 days.

How long does lyophilised Selank last?

The freeze-dried cake is Selank at its most stable, because the water that drives breakdown has been removed. The sealed vial goes in the fridge for everyday storage, or the freezer for long-term storage, in its box. Allow a cold vial to warm to room temperature before it is opened, so moisture does not condense on the powder. Room temperature for the few days a parcel spends in transit is not a concern for the powder. The general rules are in how to store peptides.

How long does Selank last after mixing?

Under Vistara Labs’ handling guidance, mixed Selank lasts 8 to 12 weeks at 2 to 8 °C, kept upright in the dark and opened only through a swabbed stopper. That is the general peptide window from how long peptides last after mixing. No published stability study of Selank in bacteriostatic water was found, so it takes the general window rather than a compound-specific one. The Selank reconstitution page has the calculator for water volume and concentration.

Why does Selank’s sequence matter for storage?

The existing guide to how long peptides last after mixing explains that dissolved peptides break down mainly where methionine and cysteine oxidise and where asparagine and glutamine deamidate. Selank has none of the four. Its seven residues are threonine, lysine, arginine, glycine and three prolines. That does not make it immune: hydrolysis of the chain, contamination and freeze-thaw damage still apply, and no stability study was found that measures how much longer it lasts. It does explain why Selank is not one of the compounds singled out for a short window.

What do the registered Selank drops show?

Selank is registered in Russia as 0.15% nasal drops: 1.5 mg of Selank and 1 mg of methylparaben per millilitre of purified water. The unopened bottle is labelled for 2 to 8 °C, protected from light and not frozen, with a 2-year shelf life. After opening, it is kept at no more than 25 °C and used within 15 days (RLS drug encyclopedia, Selank 0.15%). The 15 days is the clock for an opened dropper bottle kept at room temperature, where warmth and repeated opening both count against it. A vial mixed with bacteriostatic water, kept at 2 to 8 °C and accessed only through a swabbed stopper, is a colder, more protected condition, which is why its window is longer.

How can you tell mixed Selank has degraded?

Mixed Selank is a clear, colourless solution. Discard it, whatever the date, if it becomes cloudy and does not clear, carries strands, flakes or particles, thickens, or takes on any tint. A clear solution can still have lost potency, so the date on the vial matters as much as its appearance. See why peptides gel or go cloudy.

Travelling with Selank

Orders ship from within Canada by Canada Post Xpresspost, and the lyophilised vials travel without refrigeration. A mixed vial or spray that leaves the fridge goes in an insulated bag with a cold pack, wrapped so the bottle does not freeze against it, and returns to the fridge on arrival. An opened Selank bottle should not spend days in a warm bag: the registered product’s 15-day room-temperature limit is a useful reminder of how quickly warmth adds up.

Selank nasal spray storage

The Selank Nasal Spray comes ready-mixed in a sealed metered pump that delivers 0.175 mL per press, in a 10 mg and a 20 mg bottle. Selank is also in the Selank + Semax Nasal Spray and the Sleep & Calm Spray Stack. Each spray is kept in the fridge at 2 to 8 °C, upright, capped and out of light, and never frozen, matching the cold, dark storage on the registered drops. Handling and priming are in how to store a peptide nasal spray; the number of presses per bottle is in how many sprays are in a peptide nasal spray.

Vistara Labs supplies Selank as a laboratory research material. The windows on this page describe how long a solution stays in good condition; they are not instructions for any other use.

Frequently asked questions

How long does Selank last in the fridge?

Mixed with bacteriostatic water, Selank lasts 8 to 12 weeks at 2 to 8 °C under Vistara Labs’ handling guidance, with quality fading from around week 6 to 8. The sealed lyophilised vial lasts longer.

How long does Selank last at room temperature?

The powder tolerates short periods such as transit. A mixed solution is kept in the fridge. For comparison, the registered Selank nasal drops allow an opened bottle no more than 15 days at no more than 25 °C.

Can you freeze Selank?

The sealed lyophilised vial can be frozen for long-term storage. A mixed vial or spray should not be frozen; the registered Selank drops are also labelled not to be frozen.

Does Selank go bad?

Yes. Mixed Selank slowly loses quality from around week 6 to 8 in the fridge, and any cloudiness, particles or colour change means it should be discarded.

How should Selank nasal spray be stored?

At 2 to 8 °C, upright, capped and out of light, and never frozen, which matches the storage on the registered Selank nasal drops.
