The questions below are the ones researchers ask most about storing, mixing and handling AOD-9604. Each answer reflects its structure, a 16-residue growth hormone fragment with a Cys7-Cys14 disulfide bond, and links to the fuller page where there is one.
How long does AOD-9604 last in the fridge after mixing?
Mixed with bacteriostatic water and kept at 2 to 8 °C in the dark, AOD-9604 lasts 8 to 12 weeks under Vistara Labs’ handling guidance, with quality slowly fading from around week 6 to 8. No published stability study covers AOD-9604 in solution, so the window is general peptide guidance. The full table is on how long AOD-9604 lasts.
How long does unmixed AOD-9604 powder last?
The sealed lyophilised vial is AOD-9604 at its most stable, and the supplier figures quoted on our storage page are all long, with the longest in the freezer. It goes in the freezer for long holds and the fridge for near-term work, boxed and dry. The windows are on how long AOD-9604 lasts.
What is AOD-9604 made from?
It is the C-terminal fragment of human growth hormone, residues 177 to 191, with a tyrosine added at the N-terminus, 16 residues in all (Cox et al., Drug Testing and Analysis, 2015). In obese mice it raised fat oxidation and lipolysis without competing for the growth hormone receptor (Heffernan et al., International Journal of Obesity, 2001).
What does the disulfide bond do?
It joins Cys7 and Cys14, closing most of the chain into a ring. Because both cysteines are paired there is no free thiol to oxidise. In serum incubation the bridged loop, CRSVEGSCG, was significantly more stable than the parent peptide or the other fragments (Cox et al., Drug Testing and Analysis, 2015), which suggests the chain is cut most readily outside the ring. That reading is ours.
What do you mix AOD-9604 with?
Bacteriostatic water, which is sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol so a refrigerated vial can be accessed more than once. No measured water solubility figure was available to us, so our pages work from the concentrations our own tables use. The details are on the AOD-9604 solubility guide.
How much bacteriostatic water goes in an AOD-9604 vial?
There is no single correct volume. Our vial is 5 mg: with 2 mL it gives 2.5 mg/mL and with 5 mL it gives 1 mg/mL. More water spreads the same amount of peptide through a larger volume and makes small draws easier to read, so write the chosen concentration on the vial. The tables and calculator are on the AOD-9604 reconstitution page.
Should AOD-9604 be dissolved in acetic acid?
There is no published figure showing it needs acid, and our reconstitution page uses plain bacteriostatic water. Acid speeds hydrolysis of peptide bonds, so it is not a neutral addition.
Why is my AOD-9604 cloudy after mixing?
Brief cloudiness that clears within 10 to 15 minutes is usually trapped air from adding water too fast or shaking. Haze, particles, gel or a tint that appear later point to warm or bright storage, freezing or contamination, and the solution is discarded. More in why peptides gel or go cloudy.
Can you freeze mixed AOD-9604?
Not a vial that will be opened again, because repeated freezing and thawing promotes aggregation in peptide solutions and warms the solution each time. The frozen-solution figures referred to on our storage page are for single-use aliquots frozen once. Sealed powder can be frozen.
Is there an AOD-9604 nasal spray?
Not from Vistara Labs. AOD-9604 is supplied as a lyophilised vial only, mixed with bacteriostatic water. The method is on the AOD-9604 handling page.
