Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide, almost always shortened to DSIP, is named for exactly what it did in the original experiments: in 1977, researchers isolated a substance from the blood of sleeping rabbits that could bring on delta-wave sleep — the deepest, most restorative stage — when introduced elsewhere. It turned out to be a nine-amino-acid neuropeptide, and it remains one of very few compounds tied this directly to sleep architecture itself.
Research areas: sleep quality and delta-wave (deep sleep) activity, circadian-rhythm regulation, calming of the nervous system and stress response, nighttime recovery, and hormonal balance.
