Findings
- In 14 people with severe chronic insomnia, DSIP brought the efficiency of night sleep and daytime rest up to the levels of normal controls under double-blind, placebo-controlled conditions (Schneider-Helmert, Eur Neurol, 1987).
- In healthy men, DSIP significantly lowered ACTH while leaving vasopressin unchanged (Chiodera, Horm Res, 1994).
- In 70 patients with anxiety disorders, adding Selank to phenazepam brought the positive effect on earlier and reduced side effects, including sedation and attention and memory impairment (Medvedev, Zh Nevrol Psikhiatr, 2015).
- In patients with generalised anxiety disorder and neurasthenia, 14 days of Selank shifted the Th1/Th2 cytokine balance (Uchakina, Zh Nevrol Psikhiatr, 2008).

What is the main difference between DSIP and Selank?
The target. DSIP research looks at the night: sleep structure, delta-wave activity and the hormones that run on a daily cycle. Selank research looks at the waking state: anxiety, tension and the stress response, with the distinguishing feature that its calm comes without sedation. What is DSIP studied for?

In the 1987 insomnia study, it was given over seven nights; sleep improved with the first administration and again with repeated ones, the effect held into the first placebo night afterwards, and daytime alertness and performance rose significantly (Schneider-Helmert, 1987). Its ACTH effect in healthy men connects the sleep thread to the stress-hormone one (Chiodera, 1994). Circulating DSIP also follows a daily rhythm, peaking in the afternoon and lowest after midnight, closely coupled to body temperature (Friedman, J Clin Endocrinol Metab, 1994).

What is Selank studied for?
Selank is studied for emotional regulation, reduced anxious tension and clear focus under pressure. In 62 patients with generalised anxiety disorder and neurasthenia, its anxiolytic effect matched that of medazepam, and it added antiasthenic and psychostimulant effects (Zozulia, Zh Nevrol Psikhiatr, 2008). Its research also reaches immune signalling, through the cytokine balance shift seen over 14 days (Uchakina, 2008).

Why does DSIP carry 175 mcg per spray and Selank 350 mcg?
The bottle strengths differ. The DSIP spray holds 5 mg in 5 mL, and the 10 mg Selank spray holds 10 mg in the same 5 mL, so a 0.175 mL press carries twice as much Selank as DSIP.
