The questions below are the ones researchers ask most about storing, mixing and handling KPV. Each answer reflects the peptide’s sequence, Lys-Pro-Val, and links to the fuller page where there is one.
How long does KPV last in the fridge after mixing?
Mixed with bacteriostatic water and kept at 2 to 8 °C in the dark, KPV lasts 8 to 12 weeks under Vistara Labs’ handling guidance, with quality slowly fading from around week 6 to 8. No published shelf-life study of KPV in bacteriostatic water was found, so the window is general peptide guidance. The full table is on how long KPV lasts.
How long does unmixed KPV powder last?
A sealed lyophilised vial keeps at 2 to 8 °C for the weeks it is in use and at minus 20 °C for months, boxed and dark. The dry cake has almost no water, so slow reactions have little to work with. A few days at ambient temperature in transit do not harm it, so it ships without an ice pack.
What is the relationship between KPV and alpha-MSH?
KPV is residues 11 to 13 of alpha-MSH, its last three amino acids. It keeps anti-inflammatory activity in cell and animal models but appears to act differently from the parent hormone: it did not raise cAMP in macrophages, and its authors concluded it is unlikely to work through melanocortin receptors (Getting et al., Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, 2003).
What does KPV break down into?
Under acid, alkali and peroxide stress the major product was lys-pro-diketopiperazine, a ring formed from its first two residues (Pawar et al., Biomedical Chromatography, 2015). The other piece would be free valine. Both are colourless, which is why a clear vial is not on its own proof of full strength. Heat speeds the reaction strongly.
What do you mix KPV with?
Bacteriostatic water, which is sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol so a refrigerated vial can be accessed more than once. KPV is hydrophilic and carries a net positive charge at that pH, so it dissolves fully without acid or other solvents. The reasons are on the KPV solubility guide.
How much bacteriostatic water goes in a 10 mg KPV vial?
There is no single correct volume. With 2 mL a 10 mg vial gives 5 mg/mL; with 1 mL it gives 10 mg/mL. More water spreads the same amount of peptide through a larger volume, so write the chosen concentration on the vial. The tables and calculator are on the KPV reconstitution page.
Should KPV be dissolved in acetic acid?
No. Dilute acetic acid is used in labs to help basic or hydrophobic peptides dissolve, but KPV is already charged and soluble at the pH of bacteriostatic water. Acid was also one of the stress conditions that produced its ring product in testing.
Why is my KPV cloudy after mixing?
Brief cloudiness that clears within 10 to 15 minutes is usually trapped air from adding water too fast or shaking. A peptide this soluble does not cloud on its own, so haze, particles or a tint that appear later point to contamination, warm storage or freezing, and the solution is discarded. More in why peptides gel or go cloudy.
Can you freeze mixed KPV?
Not a vial that will be opened again, because repeated freezing and thawing promotes aggregation in peptide solutions and warms the solution each time. Laboratories that need frozen solution divide it into single-use aliquots and thaw each one once. Sealed powder can be frozen without concern. The ready-mixed spray is never frozen.
How should KPV nasal spray be stored?
At 2 to 8 °C, upright, capped and out of the light, and never frozen, the same way as a mixed vial. It arrives ready-mixed in saline, so it goes into the fridge as soon as it arrives. The routine is in how to store a peptide nasal spray.
