Cognitive & Nootropic Research
You can buy Pinealon in Canada from Vistara Labs as a 10 mg lyophilised vial, shipped from within Canada by Canada Post Xpresspost. Pinealon is the tripeptide Glu-Asp-Arg (EDR), a three-amino-acid short peptide from Vladimir Khavinson’s bioregulator programme at the Saint Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology. Its research centres on the brain: protecting neurons from oxidative stress and low oxygen, preserving dendritic spines in Alzheimer’s disease models, and small Russian studies in people. This guide covers the Pinealon 10 mg vial, what the research found and how ordering works.
Findings
- Human studies, 2012-2016: small Russian studies of Pinealon in adults aged 41 to 83 with organic brain syndrome, in locomotive crews and in a 110-person comparison reported improved biological-age indicators (Advances in Gerontology).
- Oxidative stress, 2011: in cerebellar neurons, immune cells and PC12 cells, Pinealon restricted reactive oxygen species in a dose-dependent way and reduced necrotic cell death (Rejuvenation Research).
- Offspring protection, 2012: given to pregnant rats with high homocysteine, it cut necrotic cerebellar neurons in the offspring from 17.7% to 7.0% under oxidative challenge and improved their maze learning (Int J Clin Exp Med).
- Synapses, 2017: in a cell model of Alzheimer’s disease, EDR raised mushroom-shaped dendritic spines by 71%, back to the normal level (Bull Exp Biol Med).
- Low oxygen, 2008: of four Khavinson peptides tested in hypobaric hypoxia, Pinealon had the most pronounced protective effect (Advances in Gerontology).

What is Pinealon?
Pinealon is a synthetic tripeptide of glutamic acid, aspartic acid and arginine. It belongs to the family of short peptides that Khavinson’s group calls bioregulators: di-, tri- and tetrapeptides modelled on the active fragments of tissue extracts. Despite its name, the published work places EDR among the brain peptides. Researchers from the institute describe EDR as one of two short peptides derived from Cortexin, a polypeptide preparation from the cerebral cortex of calves (Kuznik et al., Molecular Biology, 2019).
The group’s working model is that peptides this small can enter the cell nucleus and act on gene activity. Fluorescently labelled Pinealon entered the cytoplasm, nucleus and nucleolus of HeLa cells, and in solution it bound preferentially to DNA sequences containing CAG (Fedoreyeva et al., Biochemistry (Moscow), 2011). What has Pinealon research shown?
Human studies
- Adults with organic brain syndrome, 2015. Thirty-two people aged 41 to 83 with several chronic conditions and organic brain syndrome in remission took part in a study of Pinealon and Vesugen. The authors reported a significant anabolic effect, improved activity of the central nervous system and better biological-age indicators (Meshchaninov et al., Advances in Gerontology, 2015).
- Locomotive crews, 2012. Workers in locomotive crews took Pinealon capsules for two weeks, and the authors reported improved biological-age parameters and markers of adaptive capacity (Nazimko et al., Advances in Gerontology, 2012).
- Comparison of methods, 2016. In 110 people of different ages, the most pronounced effect on biological-age indicators came from Vesugen and Pinealon used together, which the authors also ranked among the safest of the methods compared (Myakotnykh et al., Advances in Gerontology, 2016).
These were small studies published in Russian.
Laboratory studies
- Cell protection, 2011. Pinealon restricted the build-up of reactive oxygen species in a dose-dependent way in three cell types and reduced necrotic death. Cell-cycle changes continued at higher concentrations, which led the authors to propose a direct action on the genome alongside its antioxidant effect (Khavinson et al., Rejuvenation Research, 2011).
- Prenatal high homocysteine, 2012. Rat mothers loaded with methionine had offspring with lower body weight and slower maze learning. With Pinealon, offspring weighed 25.0 g at day 10 against 17.9 g, first-trial maze time on day 2 fell from 170 to 137 seconds, and oxidant-induced reactive oxygen species in their cerebellar neurons were about a third lower (Arutjunyan et al., Int J Clin Exp Med, 2012).
- Dendritic spines, 2017 and 2021. At 200 ng/mL, EDR raised mushroom spines in amyloid-treated hippocampal neurons by 71% (Kraskovskaya et al., Bull Exp Biol Med, 2017). In 5xFAD Alzheimer’s model mice, two months of EDR restored total spine density in the hippocampus to the level of control mice (Khavinson et al., Pharmaceuticals, 2021).
- Learning under hypoxia, 2013. In young and old rats exposed to acute hypoxia, Pinealon improved learning in the Morris water maze more than Cortexin did (Mendzheritskii et al., Advances in Gerontology, 2013).
- Serotonin, 2014. EDR stimulated serotonin expression in ageing cultures of brain cortex cells (Khavinson et al., Bull Exp Biol Med, 2014).

Reconstituting the 10 mg vial
The mixing table for the Pinealon vial is in Pinealon reconstitution: how much bacteriostatic water, the method is in how to reconstitute peptides, and the peptide calculator works out any other volume. Storage of powder and solution is covered in how to store research peptides.
Which compounds are studied alongside Pinealon?
The closest relative in our catalogue is Epitalon (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly), the best-known Khavinson tetrapeptide, which shares Pinealon’s Glu-Asp core and its research on the cell nucleus; see What Is Epitalon? Cartalax (Ala-Glu-Asp) is the programme’s cartilage tripeptide, explained in What Is Cartalax? Among brain peptides, Cerebrolysin is a porcine brain peptide preparation in the same tradition as Cortexin (What Is Cerebrolysin?), and Semax is a seven-amino-acid ACTH analogue studied around BDNF.
