When a GLOW order arrives, check each vial’s crimp and cap and confirm the contents are a dry blue cake or powder, then move the sealed vials to the fridge for near-term work or the freezer for longer holding, in their box. Freeze-dried GLOW is a dry mixture of three robust peptides and travels safely without an ice pack. The ready-mixed spray is already a solution and goes into the fridge on arrival.
Why sealed GLOW does not need ice
In a lyophilised vial the three peptides are held in a dry cake with almost no water. Each way GLOW can lose quality in solution depends on water: cleavage of BPC-157 between its two aspartates, enzyme cutting of TB-500, breakdown of the GHK chain, and movement of the copper through GHK-Cu’s open coordination position, which is a solution process (Hureau et al., Chemistry, 2011). Without water those processes have almost nothing to work with.
The components start out tough. GHK-Cu, the bulk of the vial, came through at least two weeks at 60 °C in water during a preformulation stress study (Badenhorst et al., Pharmaceutical Development and Technology, 2016). BPC-157 and TB-500 have no methionine, cysteine, tryptophan or tyrosine, and between them no histidine, so the bound copper has nothing obvious to oxidise in either. A dry vial in a parcel faces nothing close to those conditions.
Every Vistara Labs order ships from within Canada by Canada Post Xpresspost, so the vials stay in the domestic network without a customs hold. A few days at room temperature in transit does not harm sealed GLOW powder. An ice pack would add condensation risk inside the parcel without protecting anything.
What to check, vial by vial
The seal and cap
Each vial should have its crimped aluminium seal intact and the plastic flip-off cap in place over the rubber stopper. The cap protects the stopper surface from dust and handling. A cap that has popped off in transit does not by itself mean the vial is open; the crimp and stopper are the actual closure. If the crimp is loose or the stopper is visibly pushed in or pierced, contact us before using the vial.
The glass
Look for cracks or chips, especially around the neck. Intact glass and an intact crimp mean the vial is sealed.
The cake or powder
GLOW powder is blue: the copper of GHK-Cu is already bound in the freeze-dried cake, and no dye is added. At 70 mg the fill is seven times a standard 10 mg peptide vial, so the cake is easy to see. It is normal for:
- the cake to have shrunk away from the glass or cracked into pieces;
- the cake to have broken up into loose blue powder that moves when the vial is tilted;
- powder to be scattered up the walls or on the underside of the stopper after travel.
None of these affect the peptides. Tap the vial gently on the bench to settle the powder before reconstituting.
A cake that looks damp, sticky or melted into a glassy layer suggests moisture entry, and a cake that has turned green, brown or grey suggests the copper’s surroundings have changed. Either is worth a message to us before the vial is used.
The nasal spray
The GLOW Nasal Spray comes ready-mixed in sterile saline in a sealed metered pump. Because it is a solution from the start, it goes upright and boxed into the fridge as soon as the parcel is opened. Its contents should look clear blue. See how to store a peptide nasal spray.
What to do first
- Leave the vials sealed. Do not open or reconstitute a vial until it is needed. The dry cake is the most stable form GLOW will ever be in.
- Decide fridge or freezer. Vials for use in the coming weeks go in the fridge at 2 to 8 °C. Vials to be held for months go in the freezer at minus 20 °C. The full windows are on how long GLOW lasts.
- Keep them boxed and dark. Store vials in their box in the main body of the fridge or freezer, not in the door. GHK-Cu’s copper centre is treated as light-sensitive, and it is most of the vial.
- Store the bacteriostatic water separately. Unopened bacteriostatic water keeps at room temperature; once its stopper has been pierced it is kept cool and used within its own window.
- When you are ready to mix, let the vial warm to room temperature before piercing it so condensation does not form on the powder. The method is on the GLOW handling page and the volumes on the GLOW reconstitution page.
If the parcel sat somewhere warm
An afternoon in a mailbox or a warm car is not a concern for sealed lyophilised GLOW, for the reasons above; put the vials into cold, dark storage once they are in hand. The spray is the exception, because it is already in solution, and should be refrigerated promptly.
More on GLOW
Each component’s chemistry on its own is in the GHK-Cu, BPC-157 and TB-500 references, and how the blend holds up over time is on the GLOW stability page. Our certificates are on the lab reports page.
