IGF-1 LR3 On Arrival: What to Check and Do First

When an IGF-1 LR3 order arrives, check that each vial’s seal and cap are intact and that the contents look dry, then put the sealed vials in the fridge for near-term use or the freezer for longer holding, boxed and dark. A 1 mg fill of a lyophilised protein is a very small amount, often a thin film or a tiny pellet. Sealed powder does not need an ice pack in transit.

Why IGF-1 LR3 travels without ice

A lyophilised vial contains the protein as a freeze-dried cake with almost no water. Without water the protein cannot move, unfold or meet other molecules readily, so the aggregation and disulfide rearrangement that affect it in solution have little to work with. The supplier figures reflect this: MedChemExpress rates the lyophilised protein at 2 years at minus 20 °C and ships it at room temperature within the continental US (MedChemExpress, HY-P70783), and OriGene rates it at 6 months even at 2 to 8 °C (OriGene, AR31185PU-S).

One route does continue in the dry state. In formulation studies of human IGF-I, methionine oxidation ran at similar rates in solution and in the solid, and light, oxygen and storage temperature all mattered (Fransson et al., Pharmaceutical Research, 1996). That is a reason to keep the powder sealed, dark and cold once it arrives, not a reason to ship it on ice: a few days in transit is short against the months the suppliers give the dry powder.

Every Vistara Labs order ships from within Canada by Canada Post Xpresspost, so the vials stay in the domestic network without a customs hold. An ice pack would add condensation risk inside the parcel without protecting anything.

What to check, vial by vial

The seal and cap

Each vial should have its crimped aluminium seal intact and the plastic flip-off cap in place over the rubber stopper. The cap protects the stopper surface from dust and handling. A cap that has popped off in transit does not by itself mean the vial is open; the crimp and stopper are the actual closure. If the crimp is loose or the stopper is visibly pushed in or pierced, contact us before using the vial. An intact closure also keeps out air and moisture, which matter for a protein with three methionines.

The glass

Look for cracks or chips, especially around the neck. Intact glass and an intact crimp mean the vial is sealed.

The cake or powder

Lyophilised IGF-1 LR3 is white to off-white. A 1 mg fill is far less material than a 10 mg peptide vial, so expect a thin white film, a small pellet or a light dusting at the bottom of the vial. It can be hard to see at all. It is normal for:

  • the cake to look like a faint film or ring rather than a plug;
  • the cake to have broken up into loose powder that moves when the vial is tilted;
  • powder to be scattered up the walls or on the underside of the stopper after travel.

None of these affect the protein. Freeze-dried cakes are fragile and shift with handling. Tap the vial gently on the bench to settle the powder before reconstituting; OriGene’s sheet advises centrifuging the vial before opening for the same reason.

What would warrant a question is a cake that looks wet, syrupy or collapsed into a glassy film, or that has a yellow or brown tint. Those suggest moisture got in. IGF-1 LR3 is colourless, so any tint is worth asking about. A vial that looks empty usually is not; if the label is intact and the seal is sound, hold it to the light against a dark background before contacting us.

What to do first

  1. Leave the vials sealed. Do not open or reconstitute a vial until it is needed. Supplier figures for the dry protein run to months or years; for the solution, one week to one month.
  2. Decide fridge or freezer. Vials for use in the coming weeks go in the fridge at 2 to 8 °C, where OriGene gives 6 months. Vials to be held longer go in the freezer at minus 20 °C. The full windows are on how long IGF-1 LR3 lasts.
  3. Keep them boxed and dark. Store vials in their box in the main body of the fridge or freezer, not in the door. Methionine oxidation continues in the solid, and light speeds it.
  4. Store the bacteriostatic water separately. Unopened bacteriostatic water keeps at room temperature; once its stopper has been pierced it is kept cool and used within its own window.
  5. When you are ready to mix, let the vial warm to room temperature before piercing it so condensation does not form on the powder. The method is on the IGF-1 LR3 handling page and the volumes on the IGF-1 LR3 reconstitution page.

If the parcel sat somewhere warm

A parcel left in a mailbox or a warm vehicle for an afternoon is not a problem for sealed lyophilised IGF-1 LR3, for the reasons above. Move the vials to cold, dark storage when you get them and proceed as normal. A mixed vial is different, because a protein in solution is far more sensitive to warmth; it should be refrigerated promptly and kept out of the light.
