How Long Does PT-141 Last? Storage Before and After Mixing
Sealed lyophilised PT-141 (bremelanotide) keeps longest cold and dark, and once mixed with bacteriostatic water it lasts 8 to 12 weeks at 2 to 8 °C, with quality slowly fading from around week 6 to 8. The approved bremelanotide injection is a ready-made solution labelled for storage at or below 25 °C, protected from light and never frozen, but it is a single-use device; a multi-use research vial is kept in the fridge. Light matters for PT-141 in every form. The ready-mixed PT-141 Nasal Spray is stored like a mixed vial.
Findings
- PT-141 is a cyclic heptapeptide, Ac-Nle-cyclo(Asp-His-D-Phe-Arg-Trp-Lys)-OH, an analogue of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone approved in the US in 2019 as bremelanotide.
- The approved product is a clear solution in water with 2.5% glycerin, in a single-dose prefilled autoinjector.
- Its label reads: store at or below 25 °C, do not freeze, protect from light.
- No published stability study of PT-141 in bacteriostatic water was found, so the 8 to 12 week mixed window is Vistara Labs’ general peptide guidance.
How long does lyophilised PT-141 last?
Freeze-dried PT-141 is the most stable form: with the water removed, hydrolysis and most other reactions slow to a crawl. The sealed vial is kept in the fridge for everyday storage, or the freezer for long-term storage, in its box. A cold vial warms to room temperature before it is opened, so moisture does not condense on the powder. Transit at room temperature is not a concern for the powder, and the approved solution’s 25 °C ceiling suggests the molecule is not fragile to ordinary room warmth. General rules are in how to store peptides.
How long does PT-141 last after mixing?
Under Vistara Labs’ handling guidance, mixed PT-141 lasts 8 to 12 weeks at 2 to 8 °C, kept upright, in the dark and opened only through a swabbed stopper. It sits in the general row of how long peptides last after mixing. The PT-141 reconstitution page has the calculator for water volume and concentration.
| Form | Storage | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Lyophilised vial, sealed | Fridge, or freezer long term; dark | Its most stable form |
| Vial mixed with bacteriostatic water | 2 to 8 °C, upright, dark | 8 to 12 weeks, fading from week 6 to 8 |
| Approved single-dose injection (US) | At or below 25 °C, dark, not frozen | To the labelled expiry |
| Vistara Labs ready-mixed spray | 2 to 8 °C, upright, capped, dark | Kept cold from arrival |
Why the approved product can sit at room temperature and a mixed vial cannot
Two differences explain it. First, the approved product is a single-dose prefilled syringe: it is sterile, sealed and used once, so there is no repeated needle entry and no in-use period to manage. A research vial is punctured again and again over weeks, which is why it is kept cold and its stopper swabbed every time. Second, the approved solution is formulated for shelf life, with glycerin and a pH set by hydrochloric acid or sodium hydroxide (US prescribing information, 2019). A vial mixed with bacteriostatic water has a different composition. PT-141’s ring, closed by a lactam bond between aspartic acid and lysine, is part of what makes it a durable molecule, but the 25 °C label belongs to that sealed, single-use product, not to a vial that is opened over weeks.
Why light matters for PT-141
The approved label calls for protection from light, and the sequence explains why that is sensible: PT-141 carries tryptophan and histidine, two residues that are sensitive to light-driven oxidation. Keep the vial in its box or a closed container, and keep a spray bottle out of sunlight. A windowsill or the top of a car dashboard is the wrong place for either.
How can you tell mixed PT-141 has degraded?
Mixed PT-141 is a clear, colourless solution, as is the approved injection. Discard it, whatever the date, if it becomes cloudy and does not clear, shows strands or particles, thickens, or turns yellow or brown. Background on visible changes is in why peptides gel or go cloudy.
Travelling with PT-141
Orders ship from within Canada by Canada Post Xpresspost, and lyophilised vials travel without refrigeration. A mixed vial or spray that has to leave the fridge goes in an insulated, opaque bag with a cold pack, wrapped so it cannot freeze against the pack, and goes back in the fridge on arrival. The approved product’s “do not freeze” line applies just as much to a research solution.
PT-141 nasal spray storage
The PT-141 Nasal Spray comes ready-mixed in a sealed metered pump that delivers 0.175 mL per press, in 10 mg and 20 mg bottles. It also appears in the Libido Spray Stack and the Libido Trifecta Spray Stack. Intranasal PT-141 has a research history of its own, covered in PT-141 human studies. Store the spray at 2 to 8 °C, upright, capped and out of light, and never frozen. Priming and handling are in how to store a peptide nasal spray, and presses per bottle in how many sprays are in a peptide nasal spray.
Vistara Labs supplies PT-141 as a laboratory research material. The approved product is described here only for its storage labelling; the windows on this page describe how long a solution stays in good condition and are not instructions for any other use.
Frequently asked questions
How long does PT-141 last in the fridge?
Mixed with bacteriostatic water, PT-141 lasts 8 to 12 weeks at 2 to 8 °C under Vistara Labs’ handling guidance, with quality fading from around week 6 to 8.
Can PT-141 be stored at room temperature?
The sealed powder tolerates room temperature in transit, and the approved single-dose injection is labelled for storage at or below 25 °C. A multi-use mixed vial or spray is kept in the fridge.
Can you freeze PT-141?
The sealed lyophilised vial can be frozen for long-term storage. A mixed solution should not be frozen; the approved bremelanotide label also says do not freeze.
Is PT-141 sensitive to light?
Yes. The approved label says to protect it from light, and its sequence includes tryptophan and histidine, which are prone to light-driven oxidation.
Does PT-141 go bad?
Yes, slowly. Mixed PT-141 fades from around week 6 to 8 in the fridge, and cloudiness, particles or a yellow or brown tint mean it should be discarded.
