- Semax, the activating arm. Semax is the 4 to 10 fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone with a Pro-Gly-Pro tail, which makes it far more resistant to enzymes and removes the hormonal action of the parent molecule. Its most consistent research thread is BDNF, which rose in the plasma of 110 patients recovering from ischaemic stroke and stayed high throughout that 2018 study.
- Selank, the calming arm. Built on tuftsin with the same stabilising tail, Selank came from the same Russian research institute as Semax. Among 60 patients with phobic-anxiety and somatoform disorders, its anti-anxiety effect persisted for seven days beyond the final administration (2014).
- NAD+, the energy layer. NAD+ is two nucleotides joined through their phosphate groups, not a peptide. It cycles with NADH through energy metabolism in every cell. In a 2024 randomised trial of 90 people with peripheral artery disease, six months of the oral precursor nicotinamide riboside improved six-minute walking distance against placebo.
