- 5mg DSIP Nasal Spray, 1987: in 14 middle-aged people with severe chronic insomnia, seven nights of DSIP under double-blind, placebo-controlled conditions brought sleep efficiency up to the level of normal controls, and daytime alertness and performance rose significantly (European Neurology).
- 10mg Selank Nasal Spray, 2014: in 60 patients with phobic-anxiety and somatoform disorders, Selank showed pronounced anti-anxiety and mild nootropic effects, and the anti-anxiety effect lasted a week after the last administration (Zhurnal Nevrologii i Psikhiatrii).

Why are DSIP and Selank studied side by side?
Sleep and the stress response are closely linked research areas, and these two peptides approach them from different directions.
- DSIP and sleep. DSIP is a chain of nine amino acids, Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu, first characterised by Schoenenberger and Monnier in 1977. A 1994 structural study described it as a charged, water-loving molecule that can still diffuse passively across the blood-brain barrier. In the first human study, in 1981, median total sleep in six volunteers rose 59% within 130 minutes compared with placebo, while behavioural and EEG tests showed no classic pharmacological sedation. A 1986 study of 18 people with chronic insomnia saw both its middle-aged and older groups reach normal sleep values.
- Selank and calm. Selank is a seven-amino-acid peptide built on tuftsin, a short antibody fragment, with a Pro-Gly-Pro tail added for stability. Its research centres on the GABA system and the slowing of enkephalin breakdown. In 2008, among 62 patients with generalised anxiety disorder and neurasthenia, Selank’s anti-anxiety effect equalled that of the benzodiazepine medazepam, alongside anti-fatigue effects.
